It’s a beautiful time to celebrate love in all its forms, whether romantic, familial, or friendly. But as we exchange gifts and kind words, let’s also take a moment to reflect on the greatest love of all: God’s love for us.

At Harbor of Hope,, we believe that true love finds its source in God. 1 John 4:19 reminds us, “We love because He first loved us.” Before we ever knew love, before we could share it or receive it, God’s perfect and unconditional love was poured out over us. His love is not dependent on what we do or how we measure up—it’s steadfast, unwavering, and eternal.

The Greatest Love Story

The Bible tells the greatest love story ever written. It’s a story of a Creator who formed us in His image, breathed life into us, and longed to dwell with us. Even when humanity turned away, God pursued us with relentless love. In John 3:16, we see the depth of His devotion: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Jesus Christ is the ultimate expression of love—laying down His life so that we could experience forgiveness, freedom, and fellowship with God. This sacrificial love goes far beyond chocolates or flowers; it’s a love that meets us in our brokenness, heals our wounds, and calls us beloved.

Love That Transforms

As we reflect on God’s love this Valentine’s Day, let it inspire us to love others with the same selflessness and grace. God’s love isn’t just something to receive; it’s something to share. Jesus commanded us to love one another as He has loved us (John 13:34-35). Imagine the impact we could make in our homes, communities, and beyond if we loved with kindness, patience, and humility—the way God loves us.

Valentine’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate not only the love we have for one another but also the perfect love of our Heavenly Father. Whether you are single, married, or somewhere in between, remember this: you are deeply loved by the One who created you. His love is your foundation, your anchor, and your hope.

A Prayer of Love

As we celebrate love this Valentine’s Day, let’s take time to pray and give thanks for God’s love:
“Father, thank You for Your boundless love. Thank You for seeing us, knowing us, and loving us in ways we can’t fully comprehend. Help us to reflect Your love in our words, actions, and relationships. May we always remember that no matter where we are or what we face, Your love never fails. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

This Valentine’s Day, let’s embrace the truth of God’s love and share it with the world. We’re here to walk alongside you as we all grow in love, faith, and grace. Let’s celebrate the greatest love of all—together.

You are loved,
Harbor of Hope Church

My future, your future, your neighbors future, the list goes on and on. Change can be good for all of us, but I believe that the change that the American people voted for in the White House is a change that is not only good for many people, but it's good for our country!

When Donald Trump first announced that he was running for president in 2015 (I think that's when it was), I was not a fan. His past associations with liberal and left leaning people caused me to be concerned about whether or not he would actually govern like a conservative Republican. As the Republicans were going through the primary process of deciding who was going to be the candidate, I did not vote for him. There were others running that I thought could do much better.

But after he won the primary and became the republican candidate, I started watching more and paying more attention to not only what he said, but what others said that actually KNEW him. It was obvious to me that, although he came off as very arrogant, people that knew him believed that he cared about our country and cared about helping people. And even though a lot of people did not like him, I decided to give him a shot (what can you lose when the other choice is Hillary Clinton?)

When President Trump was elected the first time, it didn't take long to realize that he was the kind of guy that would make things happen. And what I loved about him is that most of the things we care about, he did too, and vowed to make changes for the better. And change things he did!

Unfortunately, the hatred that people had for him caused a lot of strife during his first term, and he didn't get a fair shot when it came time to be reelected. Yes, I believe he had enough votes to be reelected in 2020, so I am a believer that the election was stolen by democrats who want to radically change our country into a socialist country.

Fast forward 4 years, and 4 indictments, and at least 2 attempts to assassinate him. And somehow, he made it through it all, and now stands as our 47th president!

Someone might ask, how did he lose 4 years ago, but gain such a decisive victory to become president? Well, I can think of any number of things, but one thing that immediately comes to mind - on that day in Pennsylvania, when the snipers bullet clipped his ear, only missing certain death my millimeters (clearly a Godly intervention), with Secret Service agents helping him up, guarding him, trying to escort him to the vehicle, he stands with raised fist and says "fight, fight, fight!"

I believe that he connected with many people that day. People who had been forgotten, people who didn't like what they had been seeing, but weren't sure they could trust him to make changes. But that event and iconic moment changed everything, including him. And I believe what played out that day helped propel him to the presidency!

Of course, none of this happens without God's intervention. In God's providence, I believe that he saved Donald Trumps life to give America one more chance to get things right with Him. I believe the next 4 years gives us a chance to turn our hearts back to God, and set things straight about the way we conduct ourselves in America. It won't be easy, but if you love the Lord and want to see our country go back to honoring Him first, I'm ready to "fight, fight, fight" with you!

God Bless You

It’s a reminder that change can be beautiful and that God is constantly at work, shaping us into who He desires us to be. Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” Embracing the changes of fall can help us grow in faith and understanding.

Autumn is also a time of harvest. In many cultures, this season is celebrated with thanksgiving for the abundance of the earth. As Christians, we are called to cultivate a spirit of gratitude. Psalm 107:8-9 encourages us to “give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for mankind.” This season offers an opportunity to reflect on our blessings and express our thankfulness through prayer and acts of kindness.

Fall is a season rich with meaning for Christians. It invites us to reflect on change, express gratitude, and prepare our hearts for what lies ahead. As we enjoy the beauty of the autumn landscape, let us remember to celebrate the goodness of God and the blessings He provides in every season of life.

It's an opportunity to reflect on the principles of freedom and justice that are deeply rooted in both American history and Christian faith.
Galatians 5:13 reminds believers, "For you were called to freedom, brothers. Nature bursts forth with new life, painting landscapes with hues of green, pink, and yellow. In Christianity, the arrival of spring holds deep symbolic significance, intertwining themes of renewal, hope, and resurrection.
Springtime aligns closely with the Christian celebration of Easter, the holiest day in the Christian calendar. This sacred occasion commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, three days after his crucifixion, symbolizing victory over sin and death. The parallels between the natural world's rejuvenation and the spiritual rebirth central to Christian belief are unmistakable.
One of the most prominent symbols of Easter is the egg, representing new life and rebirth. In ancient times, eggs were often dyed and given as gifts to celebrate the arrival of spring. Early Christians adopted this tradition, imbuing it with religious significance. The cracking open of the egg mirrors Christ's emergence from the tomb, signifying the triumph of life over death.
Similarly, the blooming of flowers during springtime serves as a powerful metaphor for resurrection and renewal. Just as dormant seeds burst forth into glorious blossoms, Christians believe in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ. The vibrant colors and fragrant scents of flowers evoke feelings of joy and hope, reminding believers of the transformative power of faith.
The concept of renewal is deeply rooted in Christian theology, with spring serving as a tangible reminder of God's ongoing work of restoration. In the book of Revelation, God declares, "Behold, I am making all things new" (Revelation 21:5, ESV). This promise of renewal extends beyond the individual to encompass the entire cosmos, offering hope for a world marred by suffering and decay.
Springtime rituals and traditions further enrich the spiritual tapestry of Christianity. Lent, the forty-day period of fasting and reflection leading up to Easter, serves as a time of preparation and purification. Just as the earth sheds its winter coat in anticipation of new growth, believers are called to cast off the burdens of sin and embrace spiritual renewal.
The act of baptism, central to Christian initiation, also resonates deeply with the themes of spring. Immersion in water symbolizes cleansing and rebirth, mirroring the transformative power of Christ's resurrection. Just as spring rains nourish the earth and promote growth, baptism marks the beginning of a new life in communion with God.
In the hustle and bustle of modern life, it can be easy to overlook the profound symbolism of the changing seasons. Yet, as we witness the beauty of spring unfold before our eyes, let us pause to reflect on its deeper significance. In the midst of life's trials and tribulations, may we find solace in the promise of renewal and the hope of resurrection that springtime brings.
As Christians around the world gather to celebrate Easter, may we be reminded of the enduring message of faith, love, and redemption. Just as spring follows winter without fail, so too does the promise of new life in Christ shine brightly, illuminating even the darkest of nights. So let us rejoice in the arrival of spring, embracing its symbolic richness and embracing the transformative power of the Easter message.

The transition from one year to another is not merely a change in dates; it is an opportunity for spiritual growth, renewal, and a deepening of one's relationship with God.
In this blog post, we'll explore how Christians can navigate the journey of the new year with faith and purpose.

Before embarking on the journey of a new year, it's crucial for Christians to take time to reflect on the past. This reflection involves not only acknowledging achievements and blessings but also recognizing areas for spiritual growth and improvement. Through prayer and introspection, believers can seek God's guidance on how to learn from past experiences and use them as stepping stones toward a more meaningful and purposeful life in the coming year.

As Christians, our goals and resolutions should align with God's purpose for our lives. Instead of solely focusing on worldly achievements, consider setting spiritual goals that foster personal growth and contribute to the well-being of others. Whether it's deepening your prayer life, studying scripture more diligently, or actively engaging in acts of kindness, placing God at the center of your aspirations will bring about lasting fulfillment.

While setting goals and making plans for the new year is essential, it's equally important to recognize that God's plan may differ from our own. Proverbs 16:9 reminds us, "In their hearts, humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps." Trusting in God's sovereignty allows us to surrender our plans to Him, embracing the assurance that His divine guidance is far superior to our limited understanding.

Gratitude is a powerful attitude that transforms our perspective on life. Christians, in particular, are called to cultivate a spirit of thanksgiving. Take time each day to count your blessings, acknowledging God's faithfulness and provision. A heart filled with gratitude not only enhances your relationship with God but also positively impacts your interactions with others, fostering a sense of joy and contentment.

The new year often brings about changes, challenges, and opportunities for growth. As Christians, we are called to embrace these changes with faith and a reliance on God's grace. Remember that trials and tribulations can be catalysts for spiritual refinement, and challenges can be opportunities for God to work miracles in your life.

The new year is a blank canvas, awaiting the brushstrokes of faith, hope, and love. By reflecting on the past, setting God-centered goals, trusting in His plan, cultivating gratitude, and embracing change, Christians can navigate the journey of the new year with purpose and a deepened connection to God. As you step into this new season, may your faith be your guide, and may the love of Christ shine brightly in your life throughout the coming year.

For Christians, Christmas holds a special significance as it commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. Beyond the gifts and festivities, there is a profound Christian Christmas spirit that embodies the essence of this sacred celebration.

At the heart of the Christian Christmas spirit is the act of giving. This tradition mirrors the ultimate gift from God to humanity - the gift of His son, Jesus Christ. As Christians, we are called to emulate this divine generosity by sharing our love, time, and resources with those in need. This act of selflessness is what makes the Christmas season truly magical.

Christmas brings with it a message of hope. In the darkest of times, the birth of Jesus Christ symbolizes a new beginning and the promise of salvation. This message of hope resonates with Christians, reminding us that no matter how challenging life may be, there is always a reason to have faith and optimism.

Love is a central theme in Christianity, and it is beautifully epitomized in the Christmas story. The love of God for humanity is manifest in the gift of His son, and the love between family and friends is celebrated during this season. The Christian Christmas spirit encourages us to show love, kindness, and forgiveness to everyone we encounter, just as Jesus taught.

Christianity places great importance on worship and reflection, and Christmas is an ideal time for both. Attending church services, singing carols, and reading the Nativity story allow us to connect with our faith on a deeper level. These moments of devotion help us to focus on the spiritual aspect of the holiday amid the hustle and bustle.

In the Christian Christmas spirit, acts of charity are not limited to giving gifts but extend to helping those less fortunate. Volunteering at shelters, donating to food banks, or simply offering a helping hand to a neighbor in need are ways to express Christian love and compassion during this season.

Christmas provides a special opportunity for families to come together, strengthen bonds, and create lasting memories. This time spent with loved ones fosters a sense of unity and reinforces the importance of family values in the Christian faith.

The Christian Christmas spirit is not just about the decorations, the presents, or the feasts. It is a celebration of the profound love and hope brought into the world through the birth of Jesus Christ. It is a reminder to live out Christian values of giving, love, hope, and charity. As we embrace this spirit, we can find true meaning and fulfillment in the holiday season, allowing it to enrich our lives and the lives of those around us.

Rooted in history and celebrated with varying customs around the world, this holiday provides an opportunity to reflect on our blessings and express appreciation for the good things in life. In this blog, we'll explore the origins of Thanksgiving, its modern-day significance, and how we can make every day a day of thanksgiving.
The Historical Roots:
The origins of Thanksgiving in the United States can be traced back to the early 17th century when the Pilgrims, a group of English separatists, sailed to the New World seeking religious freedom. After a challenging first year marked by hardships and loss, they celebrated a successful harvest in 1621 with a three-day feast, inviting their Native American neighbors—the Wampanoag tribe—to join them. This event is often considered the first Thanksgiving.
A Time for Reflection:
Thanksgiving is a special day set aside for reflection and gratitude. It encourages us to pause and consider the many blessings in our lives. Whether it's the love of family and friends, good health, a stable job, or the simple pleasures of life, there is always something to be thankful for. Taking time to express gratitude not only fosters positivity but also strengthens our relationships.
Cultivating an Attitude of Gratitude:
While Thanksgiving is a wonderful annual tradition, cultivating an attitude of gratitude can have lasting benefits. Incorporating gratitude into our daily lives can lead to increased happiness, reduced stress, and improved mental health. Start a gratitude journal, where you jot down things you're thankful for each day. Take a moment to express appreciation to loved ones. By making gratitude a habit, you can experience its transformative power year-round.
The Importance of Sharing:
Thanksgiving is often associated with sharing a meal with loved ones. The act of breaking bread together fosters a sense of community and togetherness. It's a reminder that life's joys are best when shared. Whether you're enjoying a feast with family or volunteering to serve meals at a local shelter, the act of giving and sharing is at the heart of the holiday.
While Thanksgiving is deeply rooted in American history, the concept of giving thanks is universal. Many cultures have their own traditions of gratitude and harvest celebrations. It's a reminder that, regardless of our backgrounds, we all have reasons to be thankful.
Thanksgiving is a time-honored tradition that transcends cultural boundaries and invites us to come together in gratitude. Beyond the delicious meals and festive gatherings, it's a reminder to appreciate the blessings in our lives and to share that appreciation with others. By making thanksgiving a part of our daily lives, we can cultivate a spirit of gratitude that enriches our well-being and strengthens our connections with those around us.
So, let's remember to give thanks.

God's grace is often described as unearned and unmerited favor. It is a gift freely given, not because of our actions or deeds, but out of a divine love that surpasses human comprehension. Grasping the depth of this grace is the first step towards genuine thankfulness.
Transformative Power:
God's grace is not a passive force but a transformative power that works within our lives. It has the ability to heal wounds, break chains, and bring about profound change. Being thankful for God's grace means recognizing its transformative impact on our hearts, minds, and circumstances.
Expressing Gratitude for God's Grace:
Take time for personal reflection on the moments in your life where God's grace has been evident. Consider the times when you felt unworthy but were embraced by divine love. Journaling or quiet contemplation can be powerful tools for expressing gratitude.
Prayer of Thanks:
In the practice of faith, prayer serves as a powerful medium of communication with the divine. Craft a prayer specifically centered around gratitude for God's grace, acknowledging the undeserved blessings and the continuous outpouring of love.
Expressing thankfulness for God's grace can be manifested through acts of service. Just as grace is freely given, find opportunities to extend kindness, compassion, and love to others. Serving others becomes a tangible expression of gratitude for the grace received.
Living in Response to God's Grace:
Forgiveness and Redemption:
God's grace is intimately connected to forgiveness and redemption. Being thankful for this grace involves extending forgiveness to others and ourselves. Embracing redemption allows us to live in the freedom granted by God's boundless love.
Spreading the Message:
Share your experiences of God's grace with others. In a world often marred by challenges, your story of gratitude can serve as a beacon of hope for those seeking solace. By sharing the transformative power of God's grace, you become a living testament to its profound impact.

Being thankful for God's grace is not just a fleeting emotion; it's a continuous journey of gratitude. It is an acknowledgment of the divine love that sustains us, redeems us, and empowers us to navigate the complexities of life. As we traverse this journey of thankfulness, may we be ever mindful of the grace that surrounds us, guiding us with love beyond measure.

Beyond its stunning visual beauty, this season holds deep spiritual significance, drawing parallels to life's journeys as depicted in the Bible. In this blog, we will explore the rich symbolism of autumn in the Bible and the valuable life lessons it imparts.

Harvest and Thanksgiving:
Autumn is synonymous with harvest, a time when farmers gather the fruits of their labor. In the Bible, the concept of harvest is often used metaphorically to represent God's provision and blessings. Just as the earth yields its bounty in autumn, we are reminded to be grateful for the blessings in our lives. Psalm 126:5-6 says, "Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them." Autumn teaches us the importance of giving thanks for the abundance we've received.

Seasons of Change:
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 tells us, "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot." Just as leaves change colors and fall in autumn, our lives also go through seasons of change. Autumn serves as a reminder that change is a natural part of existence, and we should navigate it with faith and trust in God's plan.

Letting Go and Renewal:
The sight of trees shedding their leaves in autumn is a powerful reminder that sometimes we must let go of the old to make way for the new. In our spiritual journey, we are encouraged to cast aside burdens, sins, and attachments that hold us back. Hebrews 12:1-2 advises, "Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith." Autumn teaches us the importance of releasing what no longer serves us and making room for spiritual renewal.

Nature's Witness:
Romans 1:20 reminds us, "For since the creation of the world, God's invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." Autumn, with its vibrant foliage and the cycle of life and death, is a testament to God's creative power. It encourages us to appreciate the beauty of the natural world and recognize the divine order in all things.

As we immerse ourselves in the beauty of autumn, we find profound spiritual insights embedded in the changing leaves and cool breezes. This season teaches us about gratitude, the inevitability of change, the importance of letting go, and the enduring presence of God in the world He created. Embracing these lessons, we can navigate our own seasons of life with faith, hope, and a deeper understanding of the divine.

Here are some key principles and passages on the topic of freedom:

Freedom from Sin: The Bible teaches that all humans are born into bondage to sin and its consequences. However, through faith in Jesus Christ, people can experience freedom from the power and guilt of sin. Jesus said in John 8:36, "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." The Apostle Paul also emphasized this freedom in Galatians 5:1, stating, "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free."

Freedom in Christ: The New Testament teaches that believers in Jesus Christ have been set free and liberated from the burden of religious legalism and the need to earn salvation through works. Galatians 5:13 affirms, "You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love." This freedom allows believers to live in a new relationship with God based on grace, love, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Freedom to Love and Serve: The Bible emphasizes that true freedom is not about selfishness or indulging in sinful desires, but rather about using freedom to love and serve God and others. Galatians 5:13-14 explains, "For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'"

Freedom of Choice and Consequences: The Bible also acknowledges that freedom includes the ability to make choices, but it also highlights the responsibility and consequences associated with those choices. Deuteronomy 30:19 states, "I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live." The Bible teaches that wise choices aligned with God's principles lead to blessings, while sinful choices have negative consequences.

Freedom from Bondage and Oppression: The Bible addresses freedom from physical, social, and spiritual bondage. The Old Testament recounts the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, emphasizing God's power and desire to set His people free. In the New Testament, Jesus' ministry included setting people free from spiritual oppression and bondage to evil forces.

It's important to note that biblical freedom is not an excuse for lawlessness or self-centeredness. Instead, it is a call to live in alignment with God's principles, love others, and use freedom responsibly. The concept of freedom in the Bible encompasses spiritual liberation, freedom to love and serve, and the invitation to live in God's grace and guidance.
This 4th of July we hope to take time to thank God not only for the daily freedom we get to enjoy in the United States, but the eternal freedom that is found in Him.

When Sister Annette and I were raising children, we were doing our best to raise our children in such a way that God would be proud, teach them the difference between right and wrong, and let the results speak for themselves. Home schooling was part of our plan, and Sister Annette did a wonderful job of raising good, smart children that grew up to be intelligent, God- fearing adults.
Proverbs 22:6 was and still is a staple belief for our family “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” I believed this when we were raising our children, and I still believe it today. Back to that in a moment!
Along the way, I never really thought much about how grandchildren would be painted into the picture of our lives. But sure enough, eventually all of our children grew up, and our desire turned from raising children to wondering about grandchildren: How many we would have, what they would call us, things like that. It’s funny, until our children became adults, I never thought much about scriptures that talk about Grandparents – scriptures like Proverbs 17:6 that says “Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.
” But of course, those scriptures are written deep in our hearts once we become “the aged”.
Back to Proverbs 22:6, and what that scripture means for me as a grandparent. I believe whole heartedly that this scripture is for parents – but I also believe it’s for grandparents. I’ve never really liked the saying “It takes a village to raise children”, I prefer to say “it takes a family”; and that’s where we come in as grandparents.
Grandparents have the unique skill set of blessing their grandchildren with all kinds of things their grandkids like. Things like: candy, junk food, a sip of a soft drink, doing things their parents wouldn’t let them do (within reason). And because of that, I think grandkids hold a special place in their heart for their grandparents, which gives us the opportunity to have the greatest influence on them.
So how can we have the greatest influence you ask? Not by trying to be their parents, that’s for sure! One set of parents is enough for a child (another story for another day). We become the greatest influence in our grandchildren’s lives by being there for them whenever they need us, and by showing them unconditional love – just like Jesus did for us!
So, on this Father’s Day, if you are blessed to have grandchildren, thank God for giving you the greatest gift He can give – your children’s children!

While our society may be concerned with trying to demean the role of a woman in the family ,and world as a whole, one thing is certain. Not to mention, we live in the midst of constant change. This constant change can cause us to question God, be confused in our faith, or have doubts.
Today we are talking about being readying your soul!
Keep Watch
Matthew 24:42-44 “42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”
Jesus, in this passage, is speaking about himself. He says that we must keep watch for his coming. What does he mean by this? The Bible talks about the second coming of Christ. We know, celebrated during Christmas time, that Jesus has come once to earth as a baby boy to save us from our sin! But there came a point in the ministry of Jesus when He returned to heaven. However, he left us with a promise as we await His return.
No one fully knows when the “Son of Man” will return, but the fact that he will return should affect our lives daily. If Jesus is to come back, there is work to be done!
Keep Learning
Joshua 1:8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
God says that the keys for Joshua to prosper and succeed in all he does lie in whether the book of the Law would guide his every move. Is this the case for us today? Does the Bible really take priority in our lives? Are you saturated with the Word every day, or are you content with a sparse sprinkling of it?
What is it in your heart today that's keeping you from a relationship with Christ? I speak from personal experience when I say that this relationship will truly change everything for you. Will you give up sinful ways of life to follow Jesus? Will you ready your soul, and commit yourself to Him?
Prayer: “Lord help us to live vigilant and ready lives as we commit fully to you and your ways. Let us prosper through the highs and lows of life as you faithfully lead us.”

She has been the best-known woman in the world since the days in Bethlehem; and after centuries, the statement still stands, “Blessed are you among women!” (Luke 1:28) Every person in the Bible has their story in the Bible not so that we could learn about them particularly, but to learn from their walk with God.
There is much to be learned from Mary.
First of all, Mary teaches us the submission of godliness. In Luke 1:38, we read these words, “Then Mary said, ‘Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.’ And the angel departed from her.”
From the very beginning of Mary’s relationship with Jesus, it was all about submission. When the angel Gabriel came to Mary with the news that she was to be the human mother of the Messiah, Mary had no warning, she had no preparation, she had no timeline, she had no precedent.
The entire dialogue between Mary and the angel took place in Mary’s home. When the angel intervened in her life, Mary learned she would bear a Son and that His name would be Jesus. And she was told that this birth would be unlike any other child ever born—she was to have a Child without having a relationship with a man—He would be a Child of the Holy Spirit.
And how did Mary respond to the news that she was to become the mother of the Messiah? She said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” In other words, “Lord, I don’t understand this. I don’t comprehend it, but whatever You desire, be it unto me according to Your word.
”Clearly, whoever God would’ve chosen should be a virgin that the glory of God might be miraculously demonstrated. She should also be a peasant in keeping with the humble nature of the Lord’s birth. Mary was all of these things. She honored and obeyed the will of her Father, providing His only Son a home from which He could emerge to launch the work that would define all of human history.
The Child Jesus crawled and walked behind Mary in His infancy; and then, in time, she walked behind Him. In fact, she walked behind Him all the way to the cross and all the way to the tomb. Mary teaches us the submission of godliness!
Mary Teaches Us the Surprise of Godliness
When Gabriel made his startling announcement to Mary concerning the birth of Jesus, here is how Mary first responded. “When she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was” (Luke 1:29). Mary had no preparation for this assignment: God surprised her with the message of His plan for her life. And when the shepherds told Mary and Joseph what the angel had said about Jesus at His birth, she became quietly pensive. We read, “And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart” (Luke 2:18-19).
Mary collected all these truths and deposited them within the deep recesses of her heart. She did not discuss them with others; she just thought them through herself.
Mary teaches us the submission of godliness and the surprise of it. But finally, we need to pause from the joy and gladness of Christmas and remember that Christmas is only meaningful in light of the fact that it is the beginning and not the end.
Mary also teaches us the suffering of godliness; we move from the announcement of Jesus’ birth to the agony of His death. There’s no reason for the cradle if there isn't any cross. And so, the transition from the birth of Jesus to His death is a normal and natural one. Jesus Christ was born to die. That’s why He came to this earth.
In the last moments of His life here on this earth, He turned His thoughts away from the events on the cross to concern for His mother.
Jesus turned to John in one of the last moments on the cross and concerned Himself with the well-being of Mary.
“When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, ‘Woman, behold your son!’ And He said to the disciple, ‘Behold your mother!’ And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home” (John 19:26-27).
And the Scripture says that when they left the place of crucifixion, John took Mary to his own home. It has to be one of the most tender moments in all of the New Testament record.
Jesus' first three words from the cross were about others. “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” “Today you will be with me in Paradise.” And “John, that’s my mother; you take care of her.” The record concerning Mary and John is filled with insights about godliness translated into our culture and into our very homes.
We have much to learn from this godly woman. Here’s the remarkable thing as it relates to Mary. Mary was the mother of Jesus, but she needed Jesus to be her Savior as much as every one of us. The Magnificat reveals this truth: “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior” (Luke 1:46-47). As fantastic as this is, the Savior who was born in the womb of Mary had to be born again in the heart of Mary. And the Savior whose birth we celebrate during this season is a Savior who must be born in our hearts as well. He comes into our hearts from the outside.
Merry Christmas – through all the wonderfulness of Christmas, I pray that you will spend time reflecting on the truth of what Christmas means to all of us!

It is easy to write Joseph off in the story of Jesus's birth because, after all, Mary is the one chosen to carry the Son of God in her womb. After reading this, I believe Joseph was an integral piece of the puzzle to help Mary usher in the Light of the World.

How God Uses Ordinary People to
Accomplish Extraordinary Things

The goal of many young people today is to someday be “famous.” Celebrity endorsements influence the popularity of breakfast cereal, sportswear, and even the election of our highest officials in the land. In Joseph’s day, men did not desire prestige, but rather a good reputation. Joseph’s decision to stand by Mary and for God was not an easy choice to make. We learn through his story that when we trust and obey God, He mysteriously unfolds His plan and purpose for us and, in this case, for the whole world.
He is sometimes referred to as “the forgotten man of Christmas”—Joseph—the man who was chosen to be the adoptive father of our Lord, the one who would protect the infancy of the Savior of the world. “In the Word of God, Joseph stands silent. He is spoken to, he is spoken about, but not a single syllable crosses his lips. He is viewed by many people as just a bit player, an extra, in the Christmas drama.”
You should know that in Jewish culture, unlike our own, the groom was the focus of the wedding. Joseph must have looked forward to the celebration and the simple life that would follow, of taking Mary into his household, of having children. The carpenter was fashioning a “well-constructed life.”
Even though they were engaged, there had been no physical union. Yet here is Mary with child. But how do you explain that? It is probable that even her parents neither understood nor accepted her story. But according to Matthew 1:18, the betrothal agreement had been signed, dowry gifts had been given, and friends and relatives knew of the couple’s espousal. And then Joseph discovers Mary’s going to have a baby!

Matthew 1:19 says, “Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly.” Joseph desired to shield Mary from public shame and had decided to quietly divorce her.
Maybe he concluded that Mary had committed adultery. But she was a godly woman and would have never violated her purity and their engagement. Maybe she had been raped. But she would have told him so. A third option was that Mary had been chosen by God to be the mother of the Messiah, just as she had said. Joseph was a devout man, a Hebrew. And surely he pondered the fact that the Messiah was to be born of the house of David. So, what could he do?
Not to divorce Mary might represent failure to uphold the spirit of the law. (Deuteronomy 22:23-24. 2 Slides) But to dismiss her publicly was unthinkable. He did not consider her guilty. He was
in a position of not being able to condemn her or fully justify her pregnancy. So he decided to secretly divorce her. God had made a special vessel of this noble Hebrew woman. And not wanting to interfere with God’s mysterious purposes, he would set Mary aside. To be obedient to God, Joseph was willing to give up the woman he so dearly loved.
Then Joseph had a dream. In Matthew 1:20, we read, “But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, ‘Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.’” What relief these words must have been to Joseph!
The Lord further instructed Joseph that the Child’s name would be Jesus, for He would save His people from their sins (Matthew 1:21); and as verse 25 states, Joseph “called His name
Jesus,” showing his obedience to God.
Matthew 1:24-25 says, “Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus.”

We adorn our homes with scenes and reminders of it. We greet strangers with its glad tidings.
And even a world ignorant of its purpose celebrates its remembrance.
It is Christmas, the time of year when we rejoice in the earthly coming of Jesus Christ. It is the season when all the world stands still at the celebration of the most significant event in human history. But even as believers, how often do we really focus our attention on this remarkable story? If we are truly honest, the answer is not very often.
So I want us to rediscover all the beautiful, majestic, and divine elements in the Christmas story. We will hopefully see that this one moment in time was the pivotal moment of all time and that it was assembled in such a way that we can only say it was the work of God.

WHY DID JESUS BECOME A MAN?
5 Reasons Why Jesus Came to Earth
Can you imagine how Mary must have felt as she gazed at her newborn Child? Any child that is born is a miracle from heaven, but this Child was indeed a gift. This Child had been set apart from any other that had ever been born in the history of the world. But why? The angel Gabriel had spoken directly to her, and her heart confirmed that what he said was true. This Child that she held was indeed the Son of God.
And yet, Mary must have had many questions as well, such as, “Why did Jesus become a man?” The Bible provides five answers to this vital question.
1. Jesus Became a Man to Satisfy the Prophecies of the Old Testament
In Luke 24:44, Jesus said, “All things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.”
2.Jesus Became a Man to Show Us the Father
When Philip was talking with Jesus, he said, “‘Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father’” (John 14:8-9)
3.Jesus Became a Man to Save Us From Our Sins
In 1 Timothy 1:15 Paul wrote, “This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.”
4.Jesus Became a Man to Sympathize With Our Weaknesses
Jesus became a man to sympathize with our weaknesses. In Hebrews 4:15-16 we read, “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
5.Jesus Became a Man to Secure Our Hope of Heaven
He came down so that we could go up. Colossians 1:27 says, “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Until Christ comes to live within your heart, you are not fit for heaven. The only way you can live in heaven is with Christ in you.
Subscribe to our blog to see how we dive even deeper into the story behind and around the Nativity over the next few weeks.
